Procedures of Switching Customer's Service to TXEP's REP

TIPS WHEN CHOOSING

  1. You do not need to contact your current Retail Electric Provider if you wish to switch to our TXEP's Retail Electric Provider.
  2. You can sign up for new service by calling our TXEP's Retail Electric Provider's toll-free number.
  3. Remember to ask for two important items: a Terms of Service agreement and the "Your Rights as a Customer" document.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU CHOOSE?

  1. You will receive a "Terms of Service" agreement or Service Enrollment Authorization to switch to our TXEP's REP. Once you receive this agreement you have three days to cancel the contract if you change your mind.
  2. Review your "Terms of Service" agreement carefully to make sure you fully understand your Retail Electric Provider's contract terms, billing procedures, cancellation fees, deposit requirements and low-income discount information, if applicable.
  3. You will receive a "Your Rights as a Customer" disclosure that summarizes your customer protections as mandated by the PUC.
  4. Once your switch has been processed by our TXEP's REP, you will receive a confirmation notice.
  5. Your switch will happen on the next regularly scheduled meter read date, unless you request a special meter read.
  6. You will continue to receive a bill from your old provider until your service is switched. Once your service is switched, it may take up to another month until your new provider issues you a bill.
  7. Charges on your electric bill will be listed in a standardized and easy-to-read format. Your electric bill will contain a toll-free number to report power outages and a toll- free number for inquiries and complaints.

ESTABLISHING NEW SERVICE

  1. The process for establishing new electric service in Texas has changed, but it takes only a few simple steps to turn your lights on:
  2. Choose a provider that offers service in your area.
  3. Contact your chosen provider to begin your account.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to allow several days for the ordering process so your electricity will be there when you need it. If you are establishing service for a new home or building, a permit or inspection may be required. If you have any questions about your new service or bill, call our TXEP's REP.
